Medical Anatomy Summer Assignment:
All of the tests are to completed before the first day of school. I have provided powerpoint notes and videos for you to utilize. The notes provide the information that you are responsible to learn for the test. The videos are provided to help you understand the information and help you cement your understanding so that you will be ready for your tests. You will be most successful on the tests if you take the time to read through and understand the material in the notes and attentively watch and understand each video.
This unit is inteneded to be a review of what you learned about cells during your freshman biology course. All tests need to be completed before the first day of school. They will be counted as a test grade towards your first quarter grade. If you fail to complete the tests in the allotted tie, you will receive "0's" for the assignment
This material will also be represented on your semester final.

This video helps to explain and summarize the different types of cellular transport. Please only play attention to those that are discussed in the notes. The other types are good to know, but you will not be tested over them.
Chapter 3 - Junctions and Transport

These three videos show what you would see if we performed the purple onion lab in class. These videos show a real-time example of the process of osmosis.
So that you can situate yourself with what you are seeing, the purple "thing" is the water vacuole - This is the part of the cell that I really want you to focus on. The faint outline around the water vacuole that doesn't change shape or size during the experiment is the cell wall of the purple onion cell.
Please keep this question in your mind during these videos, "what is happening to the water in the water vacuole?" I would also suggest watching each video a couple of times before even writing anything down. I love this lab because you can actually "see" the water moving into and out of the cells!!
The 4th video also shows the process of osmosis and does an egg-cellent job explaining some important terms like semi-permeable membrane, isotonic solution, hypertonic solution, and hypotonic solution. It really helps to show the movement of water across a membrane :-)
